Sitting and waiting my turn

Sitting and waiting my turn

The championship season is upon us! Not only did the NCAA championships just happen, but also a number of country’s trials are in progress. With only 83 more days until our Olympic Trials, I can only watch and wait. If you didn’t already know, the U.S. is the last country to have it’s swim trials. Right now Australia and France have just finished their trials and a number of other countries have already had their qualifiers announced. I have mixed emotions on this subject, on why our trials are so close to the Olympic Games. On one side, it is good to see what the other swimmers are going, I can set my goals and see how they are swimming their races. On the other side, I WANT TO BE THERE! I want to show the world what I am capable of, and I want to have that feeling that so many swimmers are feeling knowing they just made their Olympic team.

This time of the season is pretty tough because all I can think about is how far away our trials are. I only have two meets planned before the Olympic Trials on June 25th, the Fran Crippen Memorial meet in Mission Viejo and The Charlotte Ultraswim. Right now I am looking at this time to put in a lot of training while other countries and some teams are tapering for their big spring meets. It is tough to be doing so much training without any meets, but our team is racing every chance we get. We know this couple weeks of concentrating on just the training is really going to pay off come Olympic Trials. It is also important during this time to have a good balance outside the pool.

I have been trying to get out and do something over the weekends, if that may be a day trip up to Lake Arrowhead or down to Huntington Beach to spend the afternoon. I got to celebrate Rebecca’s 25th birthday the other weekend with a great trip to Malibu and then celebrated it even more by going to a Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker concert, which was awesomeeeeee!

In between all that, I went up to the NCAA Championships to cheer on my Texas boys. It is such a different feeling being in the stands and not on the pool deck. It was so great to be able to sit in those stands and be able to support Texas and all my former teammates. Seeing all those fast times, everyone getting so pumped after their races, it makes me remember why I enjoy swimming so much. I can’t wait until our Olympic Trials to have my chance.

I am extremely happy with where I am at with my training. My practice times are getting faster, I am being more consistent with my training, and my weight room is at the best it has ever been. California is treating me well and only a couple more months until the big show! Thanks for tuning and and I hope everyone is doing well! These are really going to start getting exciting in the next couple months so I will be sure to keep my website updated.
